Western Trading Post is the Auction House hosting the 2024
Auction Bidding Info
For the 2024 contest, the reins are designed with a 60 Button Style featuring a 12×16 plait and measuring 42” long. Both bits and spurs start with blank cheeks and spur bands, allowing the maker to customize the mouthpiece, spur shank style, rowel style, and overall design for both spurs and the bit. The cheek pieces, initially 7” when given to the maker, can be adjusted according to their preference.

In addition to the gear parameters for the 2024 contest, it’s worth noting that the auction for the event is now hosted by Western Trading Post. The Cowboy Arts and Gear Museum is grateful for the generosity of Western Trading Post in allowing the museum to connect with a broader audience. The mission is to promote gear making, honor makers, and preserve this timeless trade.
In 2020, the CAGM initially hosted the auction on its website. However, due to overwhelming interest and the limitations of their small platform, a change became necessary. To address this, the Western Trading Post, as an auction platform, now facilitates the auction. Like all online auctions, there is an additional expense, and a marginal buyer’s premium has been added to cover hosting costs. The goal is to enhance the auction experience, streamlining the process for both makers and buyers.
