Cowbology

Cowboyology, a new body of work by artist Gina Teichert, explores Western lingo and cowboy clichés. These bold, playful paintings bring together text and images lifted from conversations, songs, and stories that celebrate the beauty and humor of life in the West.

Premiering during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Teichert’s exhibition is a bit of a homecoming for the rural California based artist. She grew up in Elko County and performed at the gathering herself as a student, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, cowboy poet and trick horse performer Hamilton Teichert, who took part in the 3rd annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in 1987.

Gina Teichert will be serving as an artist in residence during the festival, with speaking appearances at local schools as well as free painting demonstrations in and around the museum Friday and Saturday afternoons. Check back in January for demonstration times and locations.

Teichert’s work will be on view from January 8 through February 4 and available for purchase through the Cowboy Arts & Gear Museum gift shop. A portion of the proceeds will go to support museum programming and operations.

Come by and meet the artist along with the talented bit, spur and rein makers also exhibiting at the museum during the opening reception.
